KZN FCS unit shine during Women’s Month

A total of 402 suspects were also arrested during the same month for various crimes such as rape, sexual assault and assault grievous bodily harm.

Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Units (FCS) in KwaZulu-Natal concluded Women’s Month in excellent form by securing a number of convictions for crimes against women and children during the month of August 2018.

  • Teams of dedicated investigators from the FCS Units around the province were in a position to secure 44 convictions during the same period whilst other cases remain under investigation or are still at court.
  • Among those convicted, 12 accused were sentenced to life imprisonment for rape cases whilst others were sentenced to a total of 394 years in prison.
  • A total of 402 suspects were also arrested during the same month for various crimes such as rape, sexual assault, assault GBH, attempted murder, common assault, concealment of birth, kidnapping as well as other sexual offences.

Police spokesman Captain Nqobile  Gwala said these seasoned investigators will continue to persevere in bringing those who abuse women and children to book.
