The carnival, set to take place on Saturday, December 15, aims to delight families, holidaymakers, music fans and fun lovers with a carnival parade from the Shelly Beach Ski-boat Club to the St Michael’s-on-Sea beachfront carnival arena.

Carnival coordinator Mantombi Nkomo feels the carnival will add to the festive season experience for locals and holidaymakers alike.

At the arena a number of activities have been lined up including live music, a secure ‘kiddies’ zone’ and braai events with a selection of some of KwaZulu-Natal’s best shisanyama outlets selling their wares.

Tourism CEO Phelisa Mangcu said the carnival is a welcome addition to the KZN South Coast summer programme.

“People are looking for new experiences and entertainment while they are on holiday or here for the long weekend. The South Coast Carnival will showcase our culturally diverse nation and rich heritage, bringing people together in a fun atmosphere.”

Event organiser, Ntombi Mkhoma, from Lucretia M said they were thrilled to be planning a carnival which embraced all cultures, ages, demographics and personalities.

The parade will feature different associations and cultural groups, including bikers, marching bands, cultural dancers and more.

The aim is to achieve an atmosphere that is casual, family-friendly, and will also appeal to the younger generation – a festive outdoor picnic and social vibe.

Victor Jaca of the Msenti Cultural Group welcomes those attending the official South Coast Carnival launch with music.

‘Best Meat’ and ‘Best Shisanyama’ competitions will also feature.

Tickets will be available via Computicket and on-site on the day of the event.
