Drive raises money for eye operation
R70 000 is needed for Dune's operation on December 7.
South Coasters threw their weight behind the ‘Drive4Dune’ event last Sunday.
The family fun drive was to raise R70 000 for 15-year-old Dune Jansen van Vuuren of Ramsgate, who lost the vision in his right eye after an unfortunate accident earlier this year.

The breakfast ride/drive began at the Hibiscus Ski-boat Club, Ramsgate, and proceeded to Munster Motor Museum for breakfast.
The cavalcade then moved on to Rocky Ridge in the afternoon where there was live music.
A splendid sum of around R50 000 was raised on the day, and this will go towards Dune’s operation on December 7.

The amount raised will cover the plastic surgeon, anaesthetist and hospital costs.
A further R20 000 is still needed for the prosthetic costs, in 46 weeks time.
Dune’s mother, Tonya Janse van Vuuren can’t thank the community enough for what they have done for Dune, and her family. “The event was very well attended and a lot of fun was had throughout the day. We have had people we didn’t know shower us with support and love. We are so blessed and thankful.”

“I think I have way more to accomplish. I know I have a lot left in me,” Dune told the Herald.
“I do want still to pursue my dreams. It is a bit harder to make it with one eye at the moment but I know I can do it, as long as I put the work in. I know I can do it.”

Dune is certain about something else – if it weren’t for his supportive parents, Craig van Rensburg and Tonya, he wouldn’t have made it this far. “Without them, I don’t know what I would be doing,” he admitted.
“They are really helping me get through this hard time.”
