Tweni Talk: All-night centres set up for South Coast heroes

Basil Lanka and Andrew de Witt set up two ‘Our Heroes’ all-night refreshment centres for all crime-fighters over the festive season.

BASIL Lanka (project coordinator) and Andrew de Witt (program coordinator) have set up two ‘Our Heroes’ all-night refreshment centres – one in Southport and one at the Lazer 911 Security headquarters in Oslo Beach, for all crime-fighting officers on the South Coast over the festive season.

This will be open to all crime-fighter officers, emergency services, CPF volunteers, security company staff, SAPS, Law Enforcement services and EMRS. Meals will be provided on festive days. To make this possible they need public help, so any kind of donation will be accepted. Depending on the funding, they hope to continue these facilities beyond the festive season. Funds can be deposited directly into Abingdon Spar’s bank account. Contact Andrew at 062 170625 or Basil at 082 822911 for banking details.

Secure your pets

Please ensure that your yard is secure and that your animals cannot escape. Two dogs were sent to LSC SPCA last week because they were roaming the streets of Umtentweni and the person who rescued them could not keep them. It’s not fair to the animals and places an enormous amount of extra pressure on the SPCA.

Report it

Law enforcement officers cannot be everywhere, all the time, so please don’t forget to report anyone breaking by-laws to 039 6825555 and remember to get an ‘OB’ number. Drinking in public is an infringement crime, and that includes drinking on beaches. There is no excuse for drinking and driving – make the call.

Great show

Steph Bennett reports that after weeks of practice and shattered nerves, the Golden Singers stepped up to the plate and rendered a stellar performance at their year-end concert.

The Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church hall was festively decorated and tables looked lovely – set with candles and flowers.

The very large, enthusiastic audience was full of praise for the choir and wonderful orchestra, and the solos and duets were flawless. A great time was had by all.

Cherry on top

Members of the choir and orchestra and their spouses were very generously treated to a delicious lunch at Hillbillion Estate, courtesy of Steph’s daughter and son-in-law Lee and Peter Hill. The venue was stunning – tables were beautifully decorated, the food was superb and copious quantities of beverages were thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated by all. The cherry on top was the large slab of chocolate at each place setting – and a doggie bag. It was truly a memorable afternoon.

Home, sweet home
