Hiccup is home after a month ‘on the run’
Hiccup had followed the Bennie family's bigger dogs through a break in their fence.

Overwhelming joy was the feeling that Angelique Bennie of Marina Beach and her family experienced when they were reunited with their wire-haired Jack Russell, Hiccup who had gone missing for more than a month.
Hiccup had followed the Bennie family’s bigger dogs through a break in their fence.
The three dogs were later spotted on a neighbor’s farm but only the two big dogs returned home.

Angelique Bennie said they spent days and nights patrolling, walking, calling and searching.
“My heart sank when we couldn’t find her. Did she get caught in a snare? Did a snake bite her? Did she drown? I was so worried that someone stole her as she was the cutest baby pup. She loved children and went to everyone. I had terrible nightmares of someone not treating her right? Is she cold? Has she got a bed to sleep in? I cried so many nights thinking of her as she had slept in our bed from when we first got her.”
They put posters out everywhere in the farming area, Marina Beach and even as far as Southbroom, offering a R1000 reward.
But days went past and no news.

Angelique said they had incredible support from friends, family and strangers who rallied around them by calling every day, sharing the reward poster online to a local farmer flying his drone to see if he could find her. Then, on January 30 a group of little boys came to the gate.
“We saw something white but couldn’t see what it was. Before we could get to the gate the boys shouted, dog and out popped this head. It was Hiccup.”
Angelique said that when she realised it was her she just collapsed and began to wail.
“I just couldn’t believe my eyes. Hiccup bolted and jumped into my arms licking me non-stop. I quickly grasped this is real and not a dream and that my baby girl was finally home. I checked her from top to bottom. Looking for scratches, cuts, bruises, marks anything to show me she was hurt or ill-treated, but she had been well looked after.”
The boys told the Bennie’s that apparently a friend of theirs was taking care of Hiccup and they remembered the posters.
“I was so thankful for her return, and that she was fed and well,” she added.
