When it comes to the welfare of children, PREVENTION is better than cure!
Early intervention programmes are provided to families where there are children identified as being vulnerable, at risk of harm or removal into alternative care.
Give a Child a Family’s (GCF) community-based family programmes focuses on prevention and early intervention programmes which are aimed at families and communities supporting and promoting nurturing care to ensure that their children survive, grow and develop to their full potential and in the best interest of children.
Prevention programmes are provided to families with children in order to strengthen and build their capacity and self-reliance to address problems that may or are bound to occur in the family environment which, if not attended to, may lead to statutory intervention.
Early intervention programmes are provided to families where there are children identified as being vulnerable, at risk of harm or removal into alternative care.
GCF’s Parenting for Life programmes empower caregivers and parents to ensure the well-being of children and promote their best interests at all times. Strong and lasting relationships are built between children and their parents/caregivers, strengthening parental capacity to love, nurture and build relationships with their children. These programmes play a critical role in raising awareness on child abuse, neglect, exploitation, child protection and how to report cases of abuse.
GCF conducts and facilitates ongoing monthly support groups for the trained caregivers, mentoring them with the view to the caregivers learning to foster lasting family relationships and strengthen family preservation.
This also ensures safeguarding the well-being of children through parents being in support groups. Outreach services, including social relief, aim to build the capacity of caregivers to ensure the development of children and unlocking their potential. Psycho-social support for children and their families is rendered through a counselling team.
