The Van Wyks have been involved in Spar and Tops retail outlets for 15 years and hope their experience and knowledge will be put to good use at the popular supermarket and liquor outlet.

Not only do Carl and Barry strive for service excellence, but the dynamic duo are also determined to offer their valued customers the shopping experience they deserve.

Already new and fresh changes are being implemented to transform the store, with added benefits for shoppers including a florist, garden and gift corner.

“There is a drive to towards healthier eating, so we aim to improve the quality of our fresh produce and ensure our products meet our customers’ expectations.

“We also plan to introduce more fresh, chopped and diced fresh produce, thus offering our customers the convenience of  ‘easy meals’,” says Barry.

The brothers add that shoppers can expect a whole new look and feel to the store.

The aim is to make Harbourview a destination store which is all about the customer.

Plans include re-tiling, new fridges,  and a ‘grab and go’ counter selling doughnuts, samoosas and hot dogs, strategically placed at the entrance.

The deli and bakery will be moved to the back of the store, next to the coffee shop.

“We are striving to be more customer-friendly and shoppers will have noticed that we have dropped the height of the shelves so that products on the top shelves are more easily accessible,” adds Barry.

“It’s encouraging that we have already received positive feedback on the changes.”

Harbourview is a very-community driven supermarket, with a huge emphasis on buying local and supporting local.

Customers can soon expect to see an exciting new twist to the popular Market Day on Wednesdays with, says Barry,  the addition of ‘various little treats’, as well as the return of popular specials like half-price sushi.

Although the upgrade is planned to be complete by December,  Covid-19 restrictions have presented a unique set of challenges.
