Tweni Talk: Mike and Bill keep the lights on in Tweni

Along the R102 to Port Shepstone there is a total of 13 lights out of order.

A HUGE thank you to Mike Davies and Bill Stephens of Umtentweni for checking on faulty street lights. Mike concentrates on the sea side of the R102 and Bill goes inland.

The pair drive around identifying which lights are not working and then take the time to mark them with danger tape to make it easier for Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s electricians to find and repair.

It sounds easy, but the exercise is extremely time-consuming.

Apparently there are 14 lights out of order inland – nine on the sea side of the R102 and on the R102 itself between Rethman Drive and the Abingdon traffic lights, only two are functional.

This means that along the R102 to Port Shepstone there is a total of 13 lights out of order.

Mysterious find

Ally Verne recently found some security documentation and items of clothing on Tweni Beach, just south of Grannie’s Pool.

It appears that an attempt was made to burn the items and photos have been posted on social media groups, but no one has come forward to identify who this belongs to.

One would think something important like this would generate interest, but hopefully the rightful owner/s will be found.

Thoughts and prayers

Condolences to Mike Futter and family and friends of Margaret Futter, who died on August 23.

Transverse myelitis sufferer Andrew de Witt sadly suffered a relapse, but will be undergoing some major tests shortly to determine whether an underlying condition is causing problems.

Nobby Clarke is still in hospital, but hopefully he will be back home soon.

Three cheers

Happy birthday to Brenda Janse van Rensburg and Mandy Massey (August 28) and Tweni’s ‘spring baby’ Shirene Smith (September 1).

Shelly Wetherill recently found that a family of Egyptian geese had taken up residence in her pool. Last Friday, she was delighted to see mom and dad happily teaching five goslings to swim. All news to Leila.
