The mass ride promoted all aspects of biking safety.

A motorcycle safety awareness mass ride from the Southcoast Mall to Douglas Mitchell Sports Grounds took place last Sunday.

The event was well attended with many biking enthusiasts from local motorcycling clubs taking part.

Biker Kevin Brown said the idea was to gather together as many local bikers as possible to drive home the motorcycle safety awareness message to other road users.

Ready for the mass ride are Marco Oliveira and Zünette Morton. 1599vee

“Through this ride, we hoped to promote all aspects of biking safety and to make drivers of other vehicles aware of the need to ‘think bike’ to safeguard those motorcyclists sharing the roads with them,” he said.

Renier and Bessie Kloppers support the motorcycle safety mass ride initiative. 1594vee

“Motorcyclists account for a small percentage of the traffic on our roads but are sadly involved in a large percentage of collisions resulting in death or serious injury. They remain the highest risk group of all road users. However, in the majority of cases, death and injury can be prevented through better education, awareness and responsibility amongst all road users.”
