Visible policing combats crime in Harding

Seventeen arrested in special police operation in Harding.

Visible policing is one of the most effective ways to combat crime and that’s what Harding Saps did to clean up their town recently.

Operation Fiela, a crime prevention initiative, targeted the CBD and Kwa Jali, as well as illegal liquor outlets and the sale of counterfeit goods.

Assisting Harding Saps were officers from the Ugu Cluster Operational Command Centre, Umuziwabantu Traffic Department and the Liquor Authority and Counterfeit Investigation Unit.

Harding detectives conducted a raid and arrested eight people who were sought for various crimes such as assault and grievous bodily harm, theft and rape.

“Seven people were arrested for selling liquor without a licence, a legal liquor outlet was fined for not being compliant and two people were arrested for owning dangerous weapons,” said police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge.

Several people were arrested for selling liquor without a license.

The Counterfeit Investigation Unit confiscated cigarettes and other items amounting to R45 000.

Harding Station Commander, Colonel Drienie Grundlingh thanked and commended the officers who took part in the operation. She also assured the public that there will be many more crime prevention operations in the future.
