Crime sweep results in arrests

Police have recently recovered a number of illegal firearms and ammunition, the result of several operations.

An Mtwalume man (55) was recently arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed rifle and 455 rounds of ammunition.

According to police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge, three unlicensed pistols were also confiscated from three men in the Makhoso and Mathulini areas in Hibberdene.

The men, aged between 22 and 42, were linked to a number of cases, including burglary and murder, committed in the Hibberdene area.

A fourth man was arrested after he was found with a stolen amplifier, sound mixer and a sound receiver.

These sealed boxes were linked to a vehicle hijacked in Pinetown.

In a separate incident, Hibberdene police discovered a truck and trailer near Smith Stop.

The truck was later found to have been hijacked in Pinetown.

Later that evening, officers came across the occupants of two vehicles offloading goods near KwaMpande Stop.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the sealed boxesbeing offloaded were linked to the truck and trailer recovered earlier in the day.

Hibberdene police recovered this truck and trailer near Smith Stop. It had earlier been hijacked in Pinetown.

Three men, aged between 26 and 40 were arrested.

All the arrested suspects have appeared at the Mzumbe Magistrates Court.
