The quick actions of the community and police saved the newborn baby's life.
A mother and her newborn baby boy are in good health after a traumatic experience at an abandoned house in Gamalakhe on Tuesday last week.
Paramedics from Kwazulu Private Ambulance Service were called out to assist with an abandoned baby. According to the spokesman, paramedic Craig Botha, when paramedics arrived at the house they found that the baby had not been abandoned after all.

“The mother had delivered the baby in an abandoned house after she had gone into labour, and with no medical attention, was unable to attend to her newborn. Community members found her and phoned Gamalakhe Saps who called emergency medical services.”
Mr Botha said paramedics examined the baby, who was in distress from a lack of oxygen. He was treated and stabilised on the scene. Mother and child were taken to a local hospital.
“The quick actions of the community and the Gamalake Saps saved the life of this newborn,” said Mr Botha.
