“Criminals thrive during periods of darkness,”said Port Shepstone Saps communications officer, Captain Petros Mpinge.
“You need to be aware of the load shedding timetable to better prepare yourself and promptly lock all open doors and burglar gates.”
He offered these tips:
* Ensure that any large shrubs, bush or hedges around your property are removed or maintained to ensure better visibility.
* Remember to fully charge your cellphones beforehand in case of emergency.
* If you’re able to, a good idea would be to stock up on torches and solar powered lighting to keep your premises well lit at all times.
* When driving, be careful at intersections when robots are not working to avoid collisions.
* Make sure gas stoves and other electrical appliances are properly turned off during power cuts to prevent fatal accidents or fires.
