Marburg logistics student jets to Abu Dhabi

For a local Marburg student, setting goals and more importantly achieving them has garnered him an invite to attend the ‘Change the World Model United Nations’ (CWMUN) conference at New York University in Abu Dhabi from November 7th to 9th.
The conference is an annual international meeting attended by more than 3500 students from all over the world, in which they debate major international political issues.

Jezeiyn Naidoo, a former pupil of Port Shepstone Secondary, who is currently studying shipping and logistics at Durban University of Technology (DUT), has been given the opportunity to attend the conference and discuss key geopolitical issues with other students.
The 20-year-old who reads a lot of business magazines, as well as books, came across an article in one of the magazines. He took a chance and put in an application for the scholarship. Part of the application process involved going online on the ‘Change the World’ website and answering questions and writing essays. A few weeks later, he undertook multiple interviews via Skype and was then accepted for the scholarship.
“I was given loads of work to do. Each member attending is delegated to represent a different country, this helps put political beliefs aside and prevents one from staying out of character, whether you agree or disagree with your country’s attributes to the agenda.”
Jezeiyn has been delegated to New Zealand, and his assignments fall under the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO).
“The dress code is strictly western business formal. I have to strategize the resolutions in the interests of my delegated country, whilst staying in character and giving an unbiased youth opinion. A lot of research has to be done as given instructions were to make full use of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) online library and UNESCO digital library.”
Jezeiyn who has developed a habit of reading business books is a fan of the prominent value investor, Warren Buffet.
“One quote stands out for me, ‘Your mind is like a bank, what you deposit is what you can withdraw’. Reading plays an important role because if you read every day, it builds up like compound interest. Everyone can do it, but not everyone will. A good friend once advised me to always turn negatives into positives and to never lose hope.’
“I would like to thank everyone who assisted me in obtaining this scholarship. I look forward to the opportunity to network and seek further opportunities regarding my career path. It would be nice if someday I could be a part of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO),” he concluded.
