Big wins for local establishments

Four local establishments scooped big wins and ranked top in their respective categories.

Four South Coast establishments were ranked among the province’s top tourism businesses at the KwaZulu-Natal Lilizela Tourism Awards held at Fairmont Zimbali in Ballito recently.

The annual provincial awards ceremony was based on a voting process by guests, a panel of judges and TripAdvisor ratings.

The four local establishments who scooped big wins and ranked top in their categories were:

Wild 5 Adventures (Action and adventure category);

Days at Sea Beach Lodge (Five-star country house category);

The Gorge Private Game Lodge & Spa (Five-star lodge category);

and Dolphin View Self-Catering Accommodation (Self-catering category).

Nomusa Dube-Ncube the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, said tourism is one of the strongest drivers of world trade and prosperity.

According to Ms Dube-Ncube in South Africa and KZN in particular, tourism acts as an engine for development through foreign exchange earnings and the creation of direct and indirect employment.

Phelisa Mangcu, Ugu South Coast Tourism CEO was ecstatic with the South Coast’s big wins, she said this serves as confirmation that the KZN South Coast has so much to offer visitors, from a world-class range of accommodation facilities through to the inordinate number of outdoor activities and cultural experiences on offer in the area.

Trafalgar’s Days at Sea Beach Lodge managers Ashton Gwanzura and Nolwazi Mahlanga walked away with accolades in the five-star country house category.

“We look forward to our establishments representing our destination at the national Lilizela Awards in Gauteng this week,” she said.

Ms Mangcu congratulated the recipients for their well-deserved recognition: “Your continued level of high service and tourism offerings continue to expand the tourism footprint of KZN South Coast on the global stage.”
