Umtamvuna Views: Tracy breaks both legs after car crash
She has been told that she will be in a wheelchair for about three months.
Tracy Morris (54) of Port Edward was struck by a vehicle as she tried to cross the road near the traffic lights. Tracy, who is handicapped, was crossing at the pedestrian zebra crossing near Boxer Superstore, and a car failed to stop and hit her.

Dr Solly Hoosen happened to be near the scene and assisted at the roadside. An ambulance transferred the badly injured woman to Shelly Beach Hospital. Tracy had broken both legs and underwent surgery on Monday this week. She has been told that she will be in a wheelchair for about three months.
Sadly, Tracy’s elderly father, Derek Morris, is a patient in the same hospital after being admitted almost two months ago and put on life support.
Crazy weather
Apparently more than 300mm of rain has fallen over the past week and roads have taken a severe beating with potholes appearing and enlarging in a very short time. Motorists who venture into Margate are warned that there are very big, deep potholes on Marine Drive that are virtually unavoidable.
There is an extreme weather system around us at present with almost unheard of tornadoes hitting KZN Midlands and Drakensberg. Some schools have been closed due to the dangers of children commuting. It has been a crazy time.
Ugu water woes continue, with yet another pump needing repairs in Durban. Local residents are frustrated and angry as even the schedule is not adhered to.
Your scribe is fortunate that she does not have a business to run and can only imagine how hard it is, especially having a service linked directly to the water supply, such as car washes, hairdressers and laundries.
Motoring mishap
On Monday this week, the electricity suddenly went out at about 10am and apparently it was not load-shedding. It turns out that an out of control vehicle smashed into a large electricity box near the corner of Portsea and Ramsay Avenues. The driver was taken to hospital and is in a stable condition. Power was fully restored at about 11pm.
One pro factor that can be ticked off for the area is that living here is always a challenge of patience.
