Life sentence for murder of pensioner

An additional a 15-year sentence for robbery with aggravating circumstances was also imposed.

JUSTICE has finally been served for the murder of a pensioner in Anerley near Port Shepstone two years ago.

Southport police found the pensioner (75) on the night of October 29, 2017.

Items stolen from the home were found abandoned nearby.

Investigating officer Detective Warrant Officer Mark John was able to link a suspect to the murder through DNA, fingerprints and cellphone tracing.

“Two days after the murder, Bhekinkosi Sibongiseni Madlala (48) was arrested in the Madlala area,” said Port Shepstone Saps communications officer, Captain Petros Mpinge.

After several appearances in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court, the case was transferred to the Scottburgh High Court for judgement and sentencing.

Madlala was on Thursday last week handed a life sentence for murder and a 15-year sentence for robbery with aggravating circumstances.
