The Christmas evening at Gate Ministries in Port Shepstone last week Friday included a play which presented the famous nativity story with an interesting twist.
Various young members of the church thoroughly enjoyed being part of the play, which depicted the birth of Jesus Christ as it may have been in a modern day setting.

In the play, the narrators were Jaden Thomas and Brady-Ann Pillay.
Jaden played the role of the grandfather, explaining the story to his granddaughter, played by Brady-Ann.
The grand-daughter does not understand why Jesus was born in an old barn.
Her grandfather tries to see things from her perspective, and so explain things in a way that will help her better understand.
So, with this in mind, the play takes place in a school.
Mary is a high school girl and her boyfriend is Joseph.
But he cannot believe that she posted the news of her pregnancy on Facebook!
All her friends disowned her and thought that she was a hypocrite.
At this point Mary is confused and she feels alone because no one understands her pain.
When Mary eventually gives birth to her son she is visited by celebrities, Oprah and Dr Phil.
They bring gifts but their motive for visiting her is to convince Mary that she cannot possibly be pregnant by the Holy Spirit.
At the end of the play the grand-daughter has a much clearer understanding of the real Christmas story.
She begins to understand that everything was perfect just the way it was.
The night was filled with laughter, a few tears and much fun.
It was enjoyed by all who attended and they left with a warm feeling in their hearts.
