New minister welcomed at NG Gemeente Kerk

A warm welcome was extended to the church's new minister.

The congregation of the NG Gemeente Church in Margate inducted their newly ordained minister Lerisha Meyer recently.

Mrs Meyer says as she was standing there, overlooking the congregation, promising to serve and to love them, she was overwhelmed by the sense of adventure that life offers. “But adventure comes with a cost. My husband, Handré, and I had to leave our families behind in Pretoria and move into a house we had only ever seen in pictures,” she said.

“However, as I stood before a community who promised to love and accept me it suddenly became clear that there is a deeper meaning to family than biology. Yes, we left our families behind, but we received a community, or as we say in Afrikaans ‘n geloofsfamilie.”

She said this new family, however, is not just restricted to the people of the congregation – it also extends to every person in the greater community of Margate. “We are united not by the water of the womb, but by the blood of the covenant – a promise made by God. This promise of God’s love and grace exceeded the amount of fear we felt by making this choice. For we know, that we are loved!”
