Father and son robbed at gunpoint

They broke the safe, containing a substantial sum of cash, out of the wall.

AN entire safe was ripped form the wall of a supermarket in Park Rynie during an armed robbery last Wednesday evening.

The owner of the supermarket noticed two suspicious men enter the store and pretend to be shopping.

When he walked towards the door he realised that four more men were loitering suspiciously at the entrance to the shop.

“When the owner tried to leave, he was pulled back into the store,” said Scottburgh Saps communications officer, Captain Adam Francis.

“All of the men were armed with firearms which they had hid in their trousers. They surrounded the owner and his son, and at gunpoint, demanded to be shown the safe.”

They broke the safe, containing a substantial sum of cash, out of the wall.

Two customers who entered the shop during this time were robbed of their cellphones and other personal belongings.

They robbers fled with the safe, airtime, cigarettes and a wedding ring ripped from the shop owner’s finger.
