RNM officials suspended amid claims of traffic fine irregularities
According to the municipality, the four are alleged to have colluded, helping themselves to money generated by traffic fines.
Four Ray Nkonyeni Municipality officials have been suspended after allegedly being implicated in the mismanagement of traffic fine money.
Two of the officials work in the traffic department while the other two are employed as data capturers, the municipality confirmed.
According to the municipality, the four are alleged to have colluded, helping themselves to money generated by traffic fines.
Ray Nkonyeni Municipality mayor, Cynthia Mqwebu said after having received this information, the municipality had immediately placed the implicated officials on suspension.
“While this is aimed at at ensuring a smooth investigation process, it is also meant to send a strong message that the municipality will not tolerate corruption and fraudulent activities by its staff.”
The municipality added that further information would not be divulged, and cautioned employees against being part of any corrupt activities as they would face harsh consequences.
