Sheppie Snippets: Special Ganesha prayer at Sivan Temple

The Thaipoosam Kavady Festival will be observed at various temples from January 30 to February 8.

Sivan Temple

The Sivan Temple has announced that a special consecration prayer (Ganesha Pradeshti Poojai) will be observed at the temple on Friday, January 31 commencing at 4pm and continuing on Saturday, February 1 at 6am.

A new Ganesha will be installed under the peepal tree. This being the year of Ganesha, it is imperative to be a part of the prayer. All are welcome.

Shree Raam Narayan Temple Society

The Shree Raam Narayan Temple Society which incorporates the Port Shepstone and District Sanathan Dharam Sabha will host Pundit Chunelall Narine at the Shree Raam Narayan Temple in Marburg on Saturday, February 8 from 4pm.

The evening’s programme will include bhajans, spiritual disclosures and Raam Katha, with New York-based Pundit Chunelall, a world-renowned singer, Hindu missionary and distinguished United Nations peace award winner.

Admission is free and all are welcome. Supper will be served.

The Temple Society will observe Mahashivarathi on Friday, February 21 from 6pm to 6am. The officiating priest is Pundit Misra.

Supper and refreshments will be served during the night.

Port Shepstone and District Tamil Association

Eeryone is invited to the association’s 17th annual Thaipoosam Kavady Festival.

The flag hoisting is on Thursday, January 30 at 6.30pm with the main Kavady on Saturday, February 8 commencing at 6am.

The flag de-hoisting and Iduman Poosai is on Saturday, February 8 at 1pm.

Bookings can be made at the temple.

Donations in cash or kind will be greatly appreciated.

Mahashivarathri will be observed on Friday, February 21 commencing at 6.30pm. All are welcome.

Umzimkulwana Shri Siva Soobramoniar Temple

The Umzimkulwana Shri Siva Soobramoniar Temple will be hosting its 81st Thaipoosam Kavady Festival, between January 30 and February 8.

The flag hoisting will be held at the temple on Thursday, January 30, commencing at 6.15pm.

The main Kavady will be held from the Natal Portland Cement Conservancy grounds on Saturday, February 8 at 7am.

The temple chariot will proceed through Port Shepstone on Saturday, February 1.

Umbango Temple

The Umbango Sri Siva Soobramoniar Alayam (Umbango Temple) warmly invites you and your family to its annual Thaipoosam Kavady prayer dedicated to supreme lord Muruga from January 30 to February 8.

Flag hoisting will commence on Thursday, January 30 with hawan at 5pm.

Daily prayer will start at 5.30pm on weekdays, at 4pm on Saturday and 5pm on Sunday.

The temple chariot will be going around the districts of Port Shepstone on Sunday, February 2 from 8.30am.

The annual Thaipoosam Kavady will be observed at the temple on Saturday, February 8 with hawan starting at 5:30am thereafter proceeding to the Marburg sports grounds for the Kavady procession.

All devotees who wish to take part in the daily obayam prayer are welcome to contact any of the executive members of the temple.

Supper will be served daily and all are welcome.
