A MALANGENI man allegedly caught in the act of raping a three-year-old child on February 8 died in the Umzinto Clinic after being assaulted by members of the community.
A woman was baby-sitting her two nieces in Malangeni Phase 2 area when she was awoken by an intruder in the bedroom.

She said she and the intruder had fought, but she was able to escape to her neighbour’s house.
“The intruder grabbed the woman’s three-year-old niece and fled into the bushes,” said Scottburgh Saps communications officer, Captain Adam Francis.
When the neighbours were made aware of what had happened, they began searching for the child.
They found her in the bush nearby, reportedly being raped by the intruder.
A case of murder and rape has been opened at Umzinto Saps.
