Umtamvuna Views: Residents rally to clean up

About 30 volunteers collected 13 bags full of rubbish.

Southcity Church members and members of PEBBRA (ratepayers) got together recently to clean litter off the main beach at Port Edward.

The weather was perfect and about 30 volunteers collected 13 bags full of rubbish. In spite of the many bins located all over the beach area, members of the public continue to toss refuse all over the place.

It was a great community effort and volunteers and helpers are sincerely thanked.

The media is full of news about the coronavirus. Everything needs balance so what your scribe believes is to try not getting too anxious and to take every rational precaution that you possibly can.

If you need help or somebody to talk to, reach out to a community leader, neighbour or friend.

In light of recent government instructions, all schools and crèches are to be closed as from March 17 until April 14.

Trafalgar Conservation Group (TCG) and Trafalgar Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association (TRRA) held a hugely successful golf day last Friday to raise funds for several projects.

San Lameer Estate hosted the event that attracted 72 players – a full field. It was a shotgun start off 18 holes. The weather was perfect and players were in good spirit.

The day ended with prize-giving, some lucky draws and amazing raffle prizes. The auction of a beautiful framed photographic artwork by Peter de Raas of Trafalgar raised a fair sum.

The fund-raiser was a great success and all sponsors and entrants are sincerely thanked.

A generous amount of money was raised, which will be put to good use keeping the beautiful little town of Trafalgar attractive.

A group of seven local hiking enthusiasts embarked on a wonderful excursion to St Bernard’s Peak Hotel in southern Drakensberg recently.

Local hikers (from left) Ian and Louise van Vuuren, Liz Pratten, Jeanie West, Sheila Neil, Mary Fasciotti and Lorraine Fitzgerald admired the amazing 300-year old bushman paintings in a nearby cave during their trip to the Drakensberg.

They enjoyed the homely and friendly atmosphere of the rustic hotel, and some lovely hikes in the area.

Five glorious days were spent in the mountains and the group witnessed a heavy hail storm that left the ground looking like it had snowed.

All news to Philippa.
