Covid-19 lockdown: Hot cooked food no longer classified as essential goods

Hot cooked food will no longer be allowed to be sold in stores.

The Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma signed and gazetted an amendment to the regulations of the Disaster Management Act, 2002 on Monday, April 20.

The new regulation stipulates any food product, including non-alcoholic beverages, but excluding cooked hot food may be sold during the Covid-19 lockdown.

The amendment regulations issued in terms of section 27 (2) seeks to clarify the exclusion of hot cooked food from the essentials goods list.
