Motorist killed in Umzumbe accident

Motorists are advised to proceed with caution in the area.

A motorist has been killed in an accident at Umzumbe bridge on the South Coast this afternoon. The accident happened at around 1.50pm. Port Shepstone Saps was on scene as well as paramedics.

Glen Preston of Med Evac said the driver of the vehicle lost control (for reasons unknown at this stage), hit the bridge and rolled.

“One person was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene. Three others were injured, two serious and one moderate,” he said. “The car had been heading north but crashed on the south side by the looks of it,” he said.

As of 3pm, the road was still closed, but may be open by the time of reading.
