Is this yours? Golf balls found embedded in tree

The fallen tree is still there, with the club being closed for now and staff off work.

The coral tree on the 4th hole at Port Shepstone Country Club, situated near the 8th tee, came tumbling down during the lockdown.

It’s the one that comes into play when golfers hit it left over the tree in front of the tee, which is fairly often.

Some of the members have spent time chopping it up. One of these was Jimmy Parsons, who discovered (at least) three balls embedded in the trunk.

“I’m guessing the bark grew over them over the years. I reckon they’ve been in there at least 10 years, maybe even 15. Who knows for sure?”

Club pro Jesse Verster could make out the letters ‘pts 100’ on one of the balls and wondered if it may have been a Titleist. “I’ve tried to work it out but most of the brand name has faded away,” he said.

Jimmy concurred. “One of the guys stuck a chainsaw through a ball, so hard to tell. They’re old for sure, but nothing too special, like those old small balls or whatever,” he said.

The fallen tree is still there, with the club being closed for now and staff off work. “The balls can be claimed from the pro shop post lockdown,” grinned Jimmy.

If you think these are yours you can claim them from the pro shop after the lockdown.
