Umkomaas Spar makes generous donation to Khanya Hospice
A R2000 grocery voucher was used to put together and distribute 120 food parcels to hospice patients.
Khanya Hospice received some very welcome donations during lockdown.
CEO Neil McDonald was pleasantly surprised when the owner of Umkomaas Spar, BJ Pretorius, donated a R2000 Spar voucher for hospice to purchase groceries for its patients.

“I was so excited. It was wonderful to know that there are still people with a giving heart who care for their fellow South Africans,” said Neil.
Once the groceries were bought, hospice staff made up and distributed 120 food parcels to patients.
Mr Pretorius has generously offered another R2000 donation.
“We have really felt the financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Neil.
“This donation could not have come at a better time and we are grateful for people like BJ who kindly support our free palliative nursing efforts.”
More patients were admitted into the hospice programme in the past few weeks, which meant additional expenses which had not been budgeted for, such as masks, sanitisers, gloves and aprons.
“Thank you to Umkomaas Spar and BJ for helping hospice,” said Neil.
