FCS officers retire after combined 71 years of dedicated service

Captain Tholiwe Nhlapho and Captain Mandlakayise Cele have been tireless in their fight for victims of rape and sexual abuse.

The South African Police Service recently bade farewell to two seasoned officers who dedicated a large part of their careers to the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS).

Captain Tholiwe Nhlapho devoted 36 years of her life to serving others, especially women and children who have been the victims of rape and sexual abuse.

Her list of accolades and training courses is impressive and members who served under her command can attest to her strong leadership skills and her tenacity in dealing with the courts.

Captain Mandlakayise Cele’s quiet and unassuming personality is in stark contrast to the powerful (mandla in isiZulu) manner in which he fought for victims of sexual assault and rape.

His 35 years of unwavering loyalty and commitment to the Service is an outstanding example for all members to emulate.  He is known for securing outstanding convictions in a number of high profile cases.

Both officers will be missed by their colleagues and it will be a challenge to fill their empty seats with equally experienced and hardworking members.

Ugu Cluster Commander, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele pointed out that as a result of the constant wave of crime – especially against women and children – it was imperative to continue to fight and win the battle with members of this calibre, whom victims could trust completely to ensure justice for them.

She thanked and wished them both the best for their well-deserved retirement as they now dedicate their time to their families.
