Trophy time during Tweni crime clean-up
Derrick Morris is looking for the owner of three trophies which were found during the clean-up.
Police, Ray Nkonyeni Municipality law enforcement and residents turned out in full force on Friday last week in a joint effort to tackle the ongoing crime and clean up in the Umtentweni beach area.
This followed a report from Derrick Morris, chairman of Umtentweni Residents’ and Ratepayers’ Association, who spotted a man walking into the dense bush along Commercial Road on Thursday last week.

Police and law enforcement officers raided the area the following day and found more than six illegal shack dwellers in the bush between the bottom of Tweni Close and the railway tracks.
Mr Morris commended the officers for their speedy response and assistance in making Umtentweni a safer suburb.
“The vagrants have been there for a long time and we think that they are probably responsible for the crime in the beach area,” he said.

Rubbish is becoming a huge problem, with Commercial Road in particular having become a dumping ground and an eyesore.
Bags of rubbish are continually dumped next to the ‘Spot Fines’ sign opposite the bottle store and the hotel.
They are not placed there on collection day and are ripped open, their contents strewn everywhere.
Mr Morris added that ratepayers had built an impressive refuse holding facility at the end of Commercial Road which was working extremely well.
They planned to erect a similar but larger wooden box at the hotspot in an attempt to prevent the ongoing dumping.
