Gauteng jet-skier rescued off Protea Banks, Shelly Beach

NSRI commended the skipper and crew of the local charter vessel Blue Diamond for their assistance.

A distress call from a visitor from Gauteng resulted in NSRI Shelly Beach duty crew launching the sea rescue craft Spirit of Dawn yesterday (Monday) morning.

Jean Pierre Thaumuller, NSRI Shelly Beach duty controller, said NSRI received a call from a woman from Gauteng reporting that her husband was in distress on a jet-ski which was sinking off Protea Banks, Shelly Beach.

The crew on the local charter vessel Blue Diamond spotted a red distress flare let off by the jet-skier and went to investigate.

The crew found the man in difficulty as his jet-ski had lost motor power.

Thy took the unharmed man onboard their vessel and the casualty jet-ski under tow.

He was transferred from Blue Diamond onto the sea rescue craft and NSRI took over the tow of the casualty jet-ski.

NSRI commended the skipper and crew of the Blue Diamond for their assistance.
