Tech centre to upskill students for the future
A first in the Ugu District, the centre will be the hub and act as a feeder to other schools.
The Marburg Secondary School Cisco Networking Academy and Technological Centre, which aims to digitally upskill students for the future working world was launched at the school last Saturday.
The project, an investment of more than R1-million, was initiated by former students, Christopher Kistasamy and Clayton Naidoo who are employed in the technology sector.
Dignitaries including KZN MEC for Education, Kwazi Mshengu and KZN MEC for Finance – Treasury, Ravi Pillay were, along with other guests, given an overview of the technological centre.
Acting principal, Madhan Seevnarain said that he was proud of Mr Kistasamy and Mr Naidoo who are now giving back to the school they attended.
“We are appreciative of their commitment,” he said.
Mr Kistasamy spoke on the impact of the 4th industrial revolution. He said with the centre in its midst, the community was at the cutting edge of the digital era.

Mr Naidoo described Cisco as the largest online university in the world with over 2.1 million students enrolled.
Locally, there are 200 active students.
“We have taken the school from a low digital footprint to high digital footprint. We want to empower people of any colour, shape or age in the Ugu District with digital skills,” said Mr Naidoo.

MEC Mshengu welcomed the project and said it fitted well within the department’s vision.
The MEC also cut the ribbon to the high tech centre and unveiled the plaque. Thereafter guests were given a tour and insights into the operational capabilities and function of the centre.
