The Lower South Coast SPCA is spearheading an urgent snare hunt this Saturday, October 10.
Volunteers are asked to meet at the Uvongo bowling/tennis club at 9am.
This comes as the SPCA is seeing an alarming increase in dogs being caught in snares.
SPCA chairman Scott Kvalsvig, members of the inspectorate team and Maser security game guards will be heading up the hunt.
“If our domestic pets are getting caught in snares, can you imagine what is happening to our wildlife,” said a concerned Mr Kvalsvig.
Those interested in attending must please bring along water, good walking shoes, a stick, pliers and gloves.
Last week, Field Officer Cher Allan and Inspector Werner Taljaard rescued a dog caught in snare in the Lions Grove area of Marburg.
The SPCA was alerted after a dog was heard howling.
After much searching Officer Allan and Insp Taljaard found the animal. The dog’s paw was injured.
Yesterday (Wednesday) the SPCA responded to a call in the Betania area where a dog had managed to break free from a snare and make its way back to its owner.
The dog’s distressed owner contacted the SPCA for veterinary treatment as the wire had cut deeply into the animal’s skin.
