Former police officer faces murder charges

He is accused of murdering Mmeli Xaba, a taxi boss who was gunned down this year; Xolani Diya, who was also in the taxi industry and who was shot in 2017 as well as Philemon Cebisa from Harding who was killed in 2016.

Former police officer and alleged hitman Thembelani Headman Dlamini has been arrested and charged for three murders which occurred in Harding between 2016 and 2020.

According to police, the breakthrough was made by the task team investigating politically-related cases.

He is accused of murdering Mmeli Xaba, a taxi boss who was gunned down this year; Xolani Diya, who was also in the taxi industry and who was shot in 2017 as well as Philemon Cebisa from Harding who was killed in 2016.

Dlamini was the National Freedom Party’s by-election candidate in 2016 after ANC candidate Bongani Skhosana was shot dead in front of his wife at his Santombe homestead.

The Saps said he had been arrested and charged for the three murders and that bail was denied.

He is currently in custody awaiting trial.
