The bathroom window had been forced open to allow the criminals to gain entry and the man's personal property including a television, cellphones and clothing had been stolen.
Two housebreakers were sentenced last week in the Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court.
Thabiso Ngcungama (24) was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment and his co-accused Sihle Thabethe (26) from Gcilma to an effective eight years.
On July 16 this year, a man awoke to find his Marina Beach home had been burgled.
The bathroom window had been forced open to allow the criminals to gain entry and the man’s personal property including a television, cellphones and clothing had been stolen.
After an intensive investigation conducted by Detective Bonginkosi Mbhele of Margate SAPS, Thabethe and Ngcungama were arrested on July 21.
Margate Station Commander Brigadier William Slabbert welcomed the sentence, saying that housebreakers were impacting negatively on communities and on those who were working hard to earn an honest living.
