Help is at hand for addicts

This campaign aims to help addicts understand what addiction is, its symptoms and solutions.

The Laqhakaza Ipara Recovery Movement will be holding an addiction awareness campaign at the Umzinto Town Hall on Friday, October 23 at 10am.

Only 100 people will be accommodated due to Covid-19 regulations.

This campaign aims to help addicts understand what addiction is, its symptoms and solutions.

Founded in 2017, Laqhakaza Ipara has invited organisations such as Narcotics Anonymous, Alcoholics Anonymous and Alanon to offer advice to those already on the road to recovery as well as to those who have yet to begin their journey to sobriety.

Chairman of the movement is Emmanuel Msomi, himself a recovering addict who has been sober for five years and seven months.

Over the years, Emmanuel has worked with various rehabilitation centres and eventually opened a sober house – Laqhakaza Ipara Recovery Movement – in Shelly Beach where he also organises Narcotics Anonymous and Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

Emmanuel has been helping struggling addicts since 2015 and has created a lot of awareness on addiction through radio, newspapers, meetings, shows and at shopping centres.

He said he had helped more than 2 500 addicts who were now clean and of sober habits thanks to Laqhakaza Ipara Recovery Movement.

“I am not doing all of this to be recognised. but to rather assist the still suffering addicts and alcoholics to achieve the gift of sobriety,” he said.
