Life sentence for Kokstad rapist
Fearing for her life, the teen told no one about the ordeal but the pain of keeping the secret became unbearable and she attempted suicide.
Samron May (33) was recently sentenced to life imprisonment for rape by the Kokstad Regional Court.
On September 8, 2018, a 14-year-old girl and her friend were at May’s home in Dower Street, Kokstad.
When the friend left the house, May took the opportunity to rape the young girl.
She tried to fight him but he overpowered and threatened her before sexually violating her.
Fearing for her life, the teen told no one about the ordeal but the pain of keeping the secret became unbearable and she attempted suicide.
She was taken to hospital where she finally revealed the suffering she had been through.
Acting KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Major General Thulani Gonya welcomed the sentence handed to May.
“We are pleased with the sentence and we pray the victim will find peace knowing that the perpetrator will spend the rest of his life behind bars,” he said.
