Umzinto siblings arrested for insurance fraud

An amount of R2,4 million was waiting to be paid when it was established that the documents were fraudulent.

Siblings, Thasveer Bobbie (30), Nirvana Paparam (40) and Nirasha Rampal (38) were arrested in Umzinto last week on charges of fraud.

According to police on November 5 last year, nine fraudulent claims were submitted to an insurance company for processing and payment after the insured person had died.

“The claims were fraudulent and manipulated by the suspects,” said Saps KZN Media Centre spokesman, Captain Nqobile Gwala.

An amount of R2,4 million was waiting to be paid when it was established that the documents were fraudulent.

“Investigations revealed that the suspects had no insurable interest in the deceased, but it was for personal gain.”

The trio appeared in the Scottburgh Magistrate’s Court on Friday last week and were each granted bail of R10 000.

The case was postponed to November 16.

KwaZulu-Natal’s Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Khombinkosi Jula, applauded the team for arresting the fraudsters.
