Rev Danny Chetty sends message of thanks from hospital

Groups around the globe have heeded the call to pray for him, with prayer meetings and special events being held for a man affectionately referred to as the 'people's prophet'.

Prayers and messages have poured in from around the world for Port Shepstone pastor, Reverend Danny Chetty.

He is currently in intensive care in hospital in Durban after brain surgery, but is rallying and has sent a message to say ‘thank you’ to everyone for the wishes and prayers.

In 2008, Rev Chetty underwent brain surgery due to a tumour. At the time, he was ‘given five years to live’.

He has gone well past that, but it seems the tumour had spread and a short while ago he had an incident which saw him being rushed to hospital.

However, he is making progress, displaying signs of his usual sense of humour, and he hopes to be up and about before too long.

Groups around the globe have heeded the call to pray for him, with prayer meetings and special events being held for a man affectionately referred to as the ‘people’s prophet’.

Rev Chetty is widely travelled, and through the various work he has done, he has been to more than 40 countries.

He was even afforded treatment at the Berlin Oncology Centre. However, since then, it has been a tiring journey, even for a man with seemingly boundless reserves of energy.

People have travelled from Harare, Zimbabwe and other parts of the world to be with local friends and family.

Hundreds, if not thousands, of messages wishing him well have been expressed.

Despite all this Rev Chetty has insisted that he requires no special attention.

“I urge you to direct the same care to other deserving people inflicted with similar symptoms as it is costly, lonely and very painful,” he said.

“The family and extended families have been more than wonderful. I’m proud to be part of the South Coast.”

Singer Jesse James has posted a special song online as a tribute – this has reached an international audience.

His children, Kimera and Biko, are holding watch and all is progressing well.

Rev Chetty’s brother Selvan, the chief whip of Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, said the family has expressed its gratitude for all the love and concern.

No visits or calls, rather send greetings to chetty.danny@gmail.com.
