Newborn found abandoned in Amandawe

The infant was handed over to the pediatric ward at GJ Crookes Hospital.

An Amandawe resident stumbled upon a newborn baby girl abandoned in the bush on Monday last week.

Police were called and the infant was handed over to the pediatric ward at GJ Crookes Hospital.

Investigations revealed that a 27-year-old unemployed woman had given birth to a girl a few hours prior to the discovery of the baby.

According to Scottburgh Saps communications officer, Captain Adam Francis, the woman has been arrested.

A case of child abandonment is being investigated by Detective Sergeant Mondli Shinga of Scottburgh Detective Service.
