Village Eagles soar in the valley
A big compliment must go to the carers of the valley, now called Umkomaas Golf Club, who have kept said valley in such good condition.
In 1948 Alan Paton wrote about the Umkomaas Valley in his book Cry the Beloved Country.
In November, the Village Eagles arrived in Umkomaas to find that the beauty of the valley that Mr Paton wrote about is still there and still creates a feeling of well-being.
Okay, unlike Mr Paton, the Eagles needed the addition of some tools known as golf clubs and golf balls to make their visit to the valley complete but complete it was and a great day was had by all of the explorers.
A big compliment must go to the carers of the valley, now called Umkomaas Golf Club, who have kept said valley in such good condition.
Now, Mr Paton did not mention weather, so the Bald Eagle had to consult another book written by some weather forecaster who told me that it is simple physics.
What comes down must go up.
He said that a lot of the water that had fallen from the sky over the previous four days would be called back into the sky by the sun.
This is known as humidity and it makes for a hot and humid day that only golfers and other similar enthusiasts enjoy.
Of course on such a day lots of re-hydration is necessary and many of the Eagles stayed behind after the game was complete in order to replace the lost liquid.
All of this making for another successful and enjoyable day out for the Village Eagles.
The Village Eagles cheekily call Umdoni their home course so it can be recorded that a new record for an away game was broken at Umkomaas with 60 players teeing it up in the morning.
Prizegiving was also a successful event thanks to all of our sponsors.
Winners on the day were Steve Padgett, Ivan Malan, Dave Craig and Charles Douglas.
Best man was John Watkins and best lady was Cathy Kamstra, one of our very welcome visitors.
A complaint has been lodged with the committee regarding the accuracy of the computer that is used for prize giving calculations.
It erroneously calculated last place to be Gus Crous, Billy Smith, Ted Moffett and Alister Ferguson.
Unfortunately, after a long consultation with the video ref their complaint was ignored and they received the Stone Last Trophy.
It is hard to believe that our next game will be the final game of the year, but that is how fast this strange year has gone. See you all at Umdoni next month.
The Bald Eagle.
