Boboyi armed robbers sentenced
Police investigated the case and arrested Sikhosana and Mkhungo in Boboyi.
Two men out on parole who committed an armed robbery in Boboyi were sentenced in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court last week.
Zenzele Sikhosana (27) will spend 15 years behind bars while his co-accused Phumlani Mkhungo (29) faces 20 years imprisonment.
They were also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Both accused had previous convictions for theft, assault and robbery dating back to 2013.
“In the Boboyi incident, a shop owner had just opened for business when two armed men entered his store, assaulted him and demanded cash on May 30, 2020,” said police spokesman, Captain Petros Mpinge.
One of the suspects took various items from the store, cash and a cellphone while the other kept watch on the complainant.
They fled on foot.
Police investigated the case and arrested Sikhosana and Mkhungo in Boboyi.
Ugu District Detective Commander, Colonel IK Naicker commended investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Rene Naidoo for the successful conviction.
He was also pleased with the sentence as the accused had not been transformed by their previous imprisonment and had to be removed from society.
