Talks, walks and more at eco festival at Mpenjati Nature Reserve

Several exciting activities are planned.

Nature, wildlife, science and wellbeing will take centre stage at the Mpenjati Eco Festival 2026 on October 3, with a full programme of talks, walks, demonstrations and activities for all ages.

The festival will take place at Mpenjati Nature Reserve on the R61, South Coast, using the north bank entrance, from 07:30 to 16:00.

The annual day-festival is hosted by the Mpenjati Nature Reserve honorary officers.

Crew from NSRI Port Edward will do a demonstration.

Visitors can explore the reserve while enjoying food and drink stalls, eco-conscious goods, guided walks, talks, science, art and demonstrations. Children are welcome.

Among the highlights are a birding walk, an introduction to the iNaturalist citizen-science platform, a talk on butterflies and biodiversity, and a free tai chi demonstration.

The day’s programme at Mpenjati Nature Reserve north bank recreation area:
• 07:30: Birding Walk with Dr David Ehlers-Smith. Booking essential: WhatsApp 067-769-4414.
• 09:00: Introduction to iNaturalist with Elize Geraghty. All ages welcome.
• 11:00: Free tai chi demonstration with instructor Shane. No experience needed.
• 12:00: Butterflies and Biodiversity with Angie Price, followed by an optional butterfly walk.
• 13:00: NSRI demonstration and interaction with Station 32 Port Edward. Meet the team, learn about sea rescue and enjoy interactive activities – perfect for children.
