Scottburgh resident, Serandon Naidoo (26) has been selected as one of this year’s Mr India South Africa finalists.
He sees this competition as a new adventure outside of his comfort zone and describes it as a much-needed confidence booster.

“I’m the type of person that has self-doubt now and then, but through the grooming and training in this competition, I have gained a lot of confidence,” he said.
The Mr India South Africa competition aims to motivate excellence in young men and combines the arts, business, fashion, culture and some lifeskills.
This is right up Serandon’s alley as he is a young stylish entrepreneur who started his own bridal hair and make-up business during his high school years.
“When I style people, not only do they appreciate that they look good, but they also feel good about themselves and that’s why I love doing what I do,” he explained.
Serandon has since travelled the world and styled many people from Spain, Greece and Italy and is currently a senior stylist at Hair Guru in Scottburgh.
“Travelling is what differentiates me from other contestants as it has taught me how to engage with people from different cultures. This platform helps people develop an understanding between different cultures,” he said.
The objective of Mr India SA is to empower young men to become positive role models that can impact the communities they live in.
Contestants are also encouraged to involve themselves in youth development programmes and are given the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of the less privileged.
With this in mind, Serandon has done quite a bit of charity work in his home town and throughout the South Coast area.
Mr India SA is described by its organisers and founders as not a beauty competition, but rather to grow the beauty of the mind and spirit of the chosen finalists with a vision to grow global leaders.
While using this platform to grow as an individual, Serandon gives full credit to his parents Logan and Shandera for being great role models and moulding him into the person that he is today.
The finals will be held on December 12 and will be very different from previous years as lockdown has delayed the competition. Due to Covid-19 protocols, the show will only allow a limited number of people in.
“While facing challenges or trying to get pass a curve ball, never doubt your capabilities and always put your best foot forward.”
