Police confiscate unlicenced firearms

In another incident. two men, aged 37 and 31, were arrested in Khakhama by Dududu detectives, Port Shepstone POP, Ugu OCC and Scottburgh Crime Intelligence.

A woman (62) was arrested for being in possession of a homemade .38 revolver and 165 live rounds of ammunition in the Emjunundwini area last week Wednesday.

She appeared on the same day at Vulamehlo Magistrate’s Court and was released on bail.

The arrest was made by members from Ugu Operational Command Centre, with the Tactical Response Team, Ugu taxi violence task team and the Public Order Policing unit.

They conducted an intelligence drive in Dududu, regarding unlicensed firearms and a number of robberies which had occurred in the area.

Both men appeared at Vulamehlo Magistrate’s Court and the case was postponed to January 14 next year for further investigation.

They were found with a homemade .38 revolver with six live rounds of ammunition, as well as a homemade shotgun with nine live rounds of ammunition.

All three were charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge urged communities to report unlicensed or illegal possession of firearms to the police while the amnesty period was still open.
