New boat and timely awards for Station 39
The team congratulated newly qualified Class 3 Coxswain, Travis Clarke, and the newly appointed deputy station commanders, Travis Clarke and Linda Putter.
The National Sea Rescue Institute’s Station 39 at Rocky Bay received its new JetRib last Sunday, just in time for the approaching festive season.
The JetRib and NSRI’s 7.3m RIB (rigid inflatable boat) will be used by the NSRI members and volunteer crew who are already well trained and ready to help save lives at sea.
The annual station awards ceremony was also held on the day of the handover and management from Sea Rescue Head Office presented Station 39’s station commander, Kevin Fourie and crew with a Station Excellence Award as well, as the Most Improved RIB Station in the Country Award.

The team congratulated newly qualified Class 3 Coxswain, Travis Clarke, and the newly appointed deputy station commanders, Travis Clarke and Linda Putter.
While celebrating these great achievements, the NSRI is appealing to the public to be cautious and to adopt a safety conscious mindset when going to the beach or inland waters to swim, especially at this time of year.
Be aware of rip currents which form constantly throughout the day in normal wave action along the coastline, and only swim at beaches protected by lifeguards.
“Always have responsible adults supervising children when they are swimming, or when they are around coastal and inland waters, and at residential swimming pools,” said Linda Putter.
