Municipal jobs ‘not for sale’

Victims have reportedly paid money for non-existent employment to a Mr Hlophe.

Umdoni Municipality has noticed that several members of the community seeking employment have fallen victims to a scam involving a man who goes by the name ‘Mr Hlophe’, who claiming that he works for the municipality.

He claims he is the Human Resources Manager at the municipality and that he is appointing general workers, who he expects to begin their working contracts with the municipality on Monday, December 14.

“It is important the community fully comprehends that no municipal jobs are for sale,” explained Umdoni mayor, Sibongile Khathi.

“All vacancies are advertised in the local newspapers and the municipal website. Proper, legislated procedures are followed until such time as the successful incumbent is appointed. At no point will the municipality seek payment for employment of any individual.”

Anyone with knowledge of a person or people involved in such scams is urged to report it to the Saps.

Remain vigilant and enquire with the municipality if you are faced with such a situation.
