‘Big Apple’ beckons for singer Raven

The talented singer is set to perform in New York next year.

Up-and-coming South Coast singer, Raven Coughlan’s talent will be showcased at the International Model and Talent Association’s (IMTA) convention in New York in July next year.

Raven recently won the national finals of the International Arts Talent Showcase held at the Silverstar Casino in Johannesburg, after she earned top spot at the regional round in Durban in February.

She performed her rendition of Celine Dion’s ‘It’s All Coming Back To Me Now’ on the final night.

Some 300 contestants took part in the nationals as they qualified at regional events held throughout Africa.

Raven was chosen by a panel of top international judges.

“I was a bit nervous but confident and very excited to be performing in front of such an illustrious panel of judges,” said Raven.

Between the KwaZulu-Natal round and the nationals, she continued to practise her craft and recorded for her YouTube channel in her small home studio.

She also attended vocal coaching and training with Colette Baillie.

She practised daily, both on the song she was performing and on general aspects of her voice and stage presence.

Unfortunately due to Covid-19 and lockdown, opportunities for public performances were not an option during this period.

She did, however, sing at local karaoke events for a bit of practice.

In the month leading up to the national finals, she also attended dance and international industry workshops which were held via Zoom.

In November, she sang at the Wild Coast Sun and performed her rendition of ‘I Will Always Love You’ by Whitney Houston at the Music in the Park concert held on December 3.

She will also be singing two solo pieces at the Carols by Candlelight event which will be held at Mattison Square on December 19 from 6pm to 8pm.

Her goal is to do more events in the new year, to build on her on-stage experience.
