Vision 2036: Fulfilling hopes and dreams of locals
The Premier said it was extremely important that the municipality fulfils the hopes and dreams of the local people.
Premier of KwaZulu-Natal, Sihle Zikalala, officially launched Ray Nkonyeni Municipality’s (RNM) Vision 2036 last Friday.
He joined RNM mayor, Nomusa Mqwebu in unveiling the tabled plans for the next 20 years.
The Premier said it was extremely important that the municipality fulfils the hopes and dreams of the local people.
“This will only happen if the municipality does not compromise and appoints highly capable and skilled public servants,” he said.
“For this vision to work properly, local councillors need to respond to their communities far more quickly when there are issues.”
Municipal manager, Max Mbili explained that at a meeting in 2016, RNM had strategised to plan ahead for two decades.
He said plans had been tabled to develop the South Coast.
“With Vision 2036, we want to make sure that there is sustainability for a better life for the people and a better economy,” he said.
He mentioned plans for a Unisa campus, which has been delayed, but he expects construction to start next year.
There were numerous important guests at the launch, including representatives from the South Coast Chamber of Commerce, Margate Ratepayers’ and Residents’ Association and other forums.
They indicated they would support this vision and work with the municipality to develop the South Coast.
Mxolisi Xolo, speaking on behalf of the Amakhosi, said they are fully behind the vision and would like to see more developments in rural areas.
