Boy (6) drowns while swimming in river

The group of children were swimming in the river when the incident occurred.

The body of a six-year-old boy was recovered from Mnafu river lagoon in Mthwalume yesterday (Wednesday) at about 2pm.

Members from Port Shepstone Search and Rescue K9 Unit, along with police dog Bear, and paramedics from Med-Evac responded to the scene.

Police and paramedics arrive in to assist.

Police spokesman Captain Petros Mpinge said it appears the boy was swimming with other children in the lagoon when he drowned. He was declared dead on the scene.

Hibberdene Saps is completing an investigation. The boy has not been officially identified yet.
